Alpine Cycling Club Child Safety Framework
Updated September 2026
Child Safety at Alpine Cycling Club
Alpine Cycling Club is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all children and young people who participate in our club, events, programs and activities.
We have zero tolerance for child abuse and harm. We believe that every child and young person has the right to participate in cycling in an environment where they feel safe, respected, included and able to speak up if something does not feel right.
Child safety is a shared responsibility. Everyone involved with ACC, including committee members, ride leaders, officials, volunteers, contractors, members, parents and carers, has a role to play in creating and maintaining a child safe environment.
Our Child Safe Framework
ACC has developed a practical Child Safe Framework to guide how we plan and deliver our activities and how our members and volunteers interact with children and young people.
The following documents form part of our framework:
- Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy: Sets out ACC’s overall approach to child safety, including responsibilities, safe practices, reporting, supervision, communications, screening and risk management.Child Safe
- Child/Young Person Safe Commitment Statement: Outlines ACC’s commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for children and young people.
- Code of Conduct: Sets out the behaviour expected of adults when interacting with children and young people through ACC.
- What To Do If You Have A Child Safety Concern? Our flowchart provides simple, step-by-step guidance on what to do if you see, hear, suspect or are told about something that may affect the safety or wellbeing of a child or young person.
- Recruitment, Screening and Training Policy: Sets out how ACC identifies child-related positions and the recruitment, Working with Children Check, screening, reference checking and training requirements that apply to these roles.
These documents apply across ACC activities and provide practical guidance for our Executive Committee, event organisers, coaches, ride leaders and volunteers.
Volunteer with ACC
ACC relies on volunteers to help deliver our events, rides, programs and activities. Some volunteer roles involve working directly with children and young people and require additional screening under our Child Safe Framework.
If you are interested in volunteering in a child-related role, we encourage you to complete our Child Safe Volunteer Application through VolunteerLocal.
You only need to complete the application once (or when your details or circumstances change). ACC will then undertake the required screening process and keep a record of your approved volunteer status. This means you can be ready to assist with future events and activities without needing to complete the full process each time.
We encourage members and community volunteers to sign up early, even if you do not have a particular event in mind. Having a pool of screened volunteers available makes it much easier for ACC to safely deliver junior programs, events and other activities.

Child Safety Concerns
We encourage children, young people, parents, carers, members and volunteers to speak up if they see or experience behaviour that concerns them.
You do not need to be certain that abuse or harm has occurred before raising a concern.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 000.

AusCycling and Sport Integrity Australia
As an AusCycling affiliated club, ACC’s approach to child safety is supported by the broader safeguarding framework for Australian cycling. AusCycling’s Safeguarding Children and Young People resources provide information for clubs, volunteers, parents, children and young people, including guidance on Working with Children Checks and reporting concerns. Sport Integrity Australia also provides child safeguarding education and resources for people involved in Australian sport. AusCycling directs coaches, instructors, support personnel, administrators and officials to Sport Integrity Australia’s eLearning for required and recommended integrity education. (AusCycling)

Everyone has a role to play
Creating a child safe club is not just about policies and procedures. It is about how we plan our activities, communicate, supervise participants, respond to concerns and look out for each other.
We ask everyone involved with ACC to understand their responsibilities and help us ensure that children and young people can enjoy cycling in a safe, positive and inclusive environment.
This policy was adopted by Alpine Cycling Club in September 2026 and will be reviewed at least annually.
