MTB Update

Tuesday Rides

It is almost the end of the year.  We have two more Tuesday afternoon MTB rides, the final week will be Tuesday 22 December followed by a sausage sizzle, bring $2 for a sausage or two, parents are really welcome to come and join in, let us know how many will be coming from your family so we can have enough sausages.

All juniors coming along on the Tuesday afternoon rides should have a name plate, either a printed one or a temporary plate.  It is really important that this plate is always carried on the bike and it has your emergency contact details and any medical conditions written on the back in permanent marker as this will help the ride leaders to identify your child especially in case on an emergency.  If your child has lost their plate, they can just ask for a temporary plate at the beginning of the ride.
New Plates will be arriving in time for start up in the new year.
Can you also make sure that your child’s bike is in good working condition before they come to Tuesday afternoon rides, this is for their safety and enjoyment, as a minimum you can check that brakes and gears are working; tyres are pumped and in good condition; the chain is lubed and running smoothly and that everything is fastened securely.  If you are not sure about fixing a bike, the team at CyclePath are really good with fixing bikes!
Finally please make sure your child has the ability to carry water, either a drink bottle on their bike or a small backpack, especially as the weather is getting hotter, they cannot rely on sharing water with others.

Junior MTB Rides will resume on Tuesday 2 February – remember to be there early for a 4.30 ride away.

It is a condition of coming along to Junior MTB events that your child must have current MTBA membership.  This will help to cover insurance if they have an accident.  If you have recently joined or renewed your membership please email membership number and expiry date to me.  We have been allowing a couple of weeks grace for new riders, but will not be able to continue to have kids riding with no membership and no name plate.

Junior MTB Race Series
A quick reminder that the second of the Alpine Cycling Club Cyclepath Junior MTB Race Series is on this weekend, Registration is from 8.30am with racing starting at 9am at Mystic Landing Paddock.  If you want to race it would be great if you could register online at https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?E=18610  More information is available on club website.
Club Jerseys
You have probably seen the kids proudly wearing the new club kit over the last couple of weeks.  We think it looks great.  If you ordered and paid for kit but have not received it, you can collect it on Tuesday afternoons at MTB club or email secretary@alpinecyclingclub.com.au to arrange a time to collect your kit.  If you missed out on the first order, you can also email secretary@alpinecyclingclub.com.au to order your kit in both childrens and adult sizes, take a look at the club website for information on sizing and prices.

Thank you to all the mums and dads and friends who come along to help out every week on Tuesday afternoon rides – it could not happen without you – if you haven’t been don’t be shy, you will be partnered with a more experienced ride leader who can show you the ropes – it is lots of fun.  We are regularly getting 80+ juniors, and are working towards groups of less than 8 so we need lots of helpers.
